Run the Parkway Half Marathon — F40-44: Murray Controls the Parkway

• Betty Murray (West Sacramento, age 42) won the F40-44 group in 2:05:33 (9:35/mi), finishing more than five minutes clear of the field.
• Katie Petrik and Emily Hundley staged a dramatic battle for silver, finishing 2nd and 3rd in 2:10:46 and 2:10:48 — just two seconds apart at the line.
• Hundley posted the 26th-fastest women's split on Mile 10→Finish, catching nearly all of Petrik's lead in the closing miles to make it a genuine race for the podium.
• Erin Seeberger (2:32:38) edged Dena Stone (2:32:39) for 10th — Stone's clock shows one second later despite placing one spot behind, a razor-thin finish decided by the timing system.

Betty Murray set the tone from the start and never let up. Running 9:35/mi through the warm Folsom morning — 74°F with enough humidity to make every mile feel heavier — she held her position steadily among the women's field and delivered the kind of measured, controlled effort that wins age groups. Her 22nd-fastest women's split on the Mile 4→Mile 10 stretch showed she was moving well through the heart of the course, and she crossed the line in 2:05:33 with over five minutes to spare.

Behind her, the race for second and third was one of the sharpest sub-plots of the morning. Katie Petrik (Sacramento, age 40) ran a strong middle segment, posting the 26th-fastest women's split on Mile 4→Mile 10 and moving up from 28th to 25th among women through that stretch. But Emily Hundley (Citrus Heights, age 42) had other plans. Hundley answered with the 26th-fastest women's split on Mile 10→Finish — a faster closing pace that reeled Petrik back in. The result: Petrik 2:10:46, Hundley 2:10:48. Two seconds. Petrik held on, but only just.

Mallery Buckman (Auburn, age 40) rounded out the top four in 2:12:07, followed by Danielle Dobeck in 2:17:01 and Natalie Millanes in 2:21:00. Further back, the group remained active all the way to the finish, with Alex Grochulski (3:38:39) and Amy Pardini (3:44:59) completing all 16 finishers in the F40-44 field — every one of them earning their medal on a warm November day along the Parkway.
