Chris (Butch) Humbert came to Folsom from Mound, Minnesota and made his presence felt immediately. Running a composed 7:12/mi, he steadily worked his way through the men's field — moving from 12th to 9th to 7th among the men as the race progressed. His second half was where the race was truly won: his split from the midpoint to the finish ranked 7th among all the men, a sign that while others faded in the 74°F warmth, Humbert was just getting started. The winning margin of 3:49 over John Blue was never really in doubt.

Blue, a Sacramento local running 7:29/mi, was a worthy runner-up in 1:38:09. He, too, found his legs late, posting the 11th-fastest Mile 10→Finish split among the men to climb back to 12th in the men's field after briefly slipping to 15th at mid-race — a solid recovery and a clear sign he didn't fade so much as recalibrate. Cathey rounded out the podium in 1:47:47, finishing on home soil in Folsom, while Holland's 1:54:15 made it four men under two hours in the age group.

Paul Sterk (2:08:50, 9:50/mi) and Mike Jimenez (2:17:05, 10:27/mi) kept the group competitive into the back half of the pack, with Robert Sindelar of Sausalito completing his journey in 2:29:40 at 11:25/mi. Andy Solari closed out the M60-64 field in 3:04:24 — every finisher earning their result on a day that offered little relief from the heat.
