Under 57°F skies with a light bay breeze, the F55-59 race was decided early and decisively. Marta Nelson, 59 years old and representing Brooklyn, NY, crossed in 27:22 at an 8:49/mi clip — a commanding performance that left the rest of the field well behind. Her margin over Cameron Jones was 52 seconds, and no one else came within five minutes of her winning time.

Jones, 56, from nearby Oakland, was the clear runner-up, finishing in 28:14 (9:05/mi) to claim 2nd. The gap from Jones back to 3rd was substantial — Ju Lin of San Jose crossed in 32:26 (10:26/mi), more than four minutes behind Jones and over five behind Nelson. The front three were in a class of their own, separated from the rest of the field by a significant margin.

The most gripping moment of the race came further back, where Soo Tan (Fremont, CA) and Anne Croissant (Austin, TX) — both 55 — ran a near-identical race to the finish line. Tan held 4th in 34:42; Croissant crossed just one second later in 34:43 to take 5th. Over more than three miles in San Francisco's hills and fog, a single second was all that separated them. Chunghye Chung of San Francisco rounded out the top six in 35:42 (11:29/mi).

The field stretched across a wide range of efforts, with Manisha Maheshwari finishing 20th in 53:15 (17:08/mi) and 15 additional finishers rounding out the 35-woman field. Nelson's win was the headline, but the battle for 4th proved there were real races happening throughout the pack.
