Her 8:20/mi average was nearly a full 100 seconds per mile faster than Deanna Jurgens' 9:57/mi — a gap that turned a 5K into a solo time trial at the front. By the finish, Cheng's 25:53 stood more than five minutes ahead of Jurgens' 30:56, a margin that speaks to genuine dominance, not just a fortunate day.

Behind Jurgens, Dana Dodson of Novato claimed 3rd in 34:04 at 10:58/mi, and then the race got genuinely interesting. Lieve Dierckx (35:00), Nancy Maat (35:02), and Jane Melia (35:07) were separated by just seven seconds across three places — a tight little battle that Dierckx edged by the slimmest of margins.
