Nellie Mencer of San Rafael made the 26-girl F1-12 field look like a training run. Running 8:15 per mile on a warm Sacramento morning — 73°F with a light breeze — she moved from 48th to 33rd among all women over the final mile, posting the 28th-fastest women's closing split in the race. Her 53-second winning margin over Villa was decisive from the start.

Hailey Villa (11, Sacramento) held 2nd comfortably but had an interesting second half: after sitting 29th among women at the one-mile mark, she slipped to 43rd by the finish, suggesting the field around her found another gear late. She still crossed in 26:29, well clear of the 3rd-place battle unfolding behind her.

That battle was the race's most dramatic moment. Abigail Lee and Riley Biondi — ages 12 and 7, respectively — ran virtually identical races, finishing in the same second on the clock. It took a six-hundredths-of-a-second gap to separate them, with Lee taking 3rd and Biondi 4th. The fact that a 7-year-old was in that fight at all, running 9:31 pace for 3.1 miles, was the age-group's quiet subplot.

Mazie Sneddon (11) rounded out the top five in 30:19, with Eleanor Glidewell, Laurel Smith, and eight-year-old Alexandra Ravel leading a solid mid-pack through 34 minutes. All 26 finishers completed the course on a clear May morning — a strong showing for Sacramento's youngest runners.
