Behind him, Kevin Tran ran a solid 21:58 (7:04/mi) for a clear second place, but the real drama unfolded in the fight for the final podium spot. Leyva and Davenport were separated by just five seconds at the line — 24:14 to 24:19 — after Leyva clawed his way up from 113th to 88th among the men's field in the back half of the race, while Davenport made a similar charge from 98th to 90th.
