Barks & Brews 5K: Lily Fowler takes the F16-18 title in Sacramento

• Loti Boucher ran the strongest middle mile in the group, posting the 26th-fastest women's split on the 1M→2M segment on her way to 2nd in 22:11.
• Giuliana Martino closed hardest among the back half of the field, recording the 58th-fastest women's closing split (3M→finish) to secure 3rd in 27:26.
• Riya Angeleen faded through miles one and two but rallied late with the 31st-fastest women's closing split, finishing 4th in 28:37.

Lily Fowler, 16, from Sacramento, set the pace from the gun and held it. Her 21:44 — roughly 6:60 per mile through a warm Sacramento morning with a 14 mph breeze — put her clear of the field. She did drift slightly in the women's standings through the middle mile, slipping from 21st to 24th among women, before recovering to 23rd at the line, but none of that movement threatened her grip on the age group. Loti Boucher, also 16 and from El Dorado Hills, was the one applying pressure, steadily climbing from 33rd to 27th among women and posting the group's best middle-mile split. Her 22:11 locked up 2nd, 27 seconds back.

The race for 3rd told a different story. Giuliana Martino, 16, came to life in the final mile, running the 58th-fastest closing split among women to pull away from a fading Riya Angeleen. Angeleen, 17, had actually been moving well early — sitting 79th among women after the first mile — but dropped back sharply through the middle stretch before her own strong closing split (31st-fastest among women on 3M→finish) wasn't quite enough to close the gap. Martino crossed in 27:26, Angeleen in 28:37.

Emma Robirds (5th, 30:35) and Fariha Amiri (6th, 30:39) were separated by just four seconds at the line, with Robirds having made one of the group's more dramatic positional recoveries — entering the middle mile 209th among women before climbing to 148th by the finish. Avery Strickland (7th, 57:25) and Addison Munoz (8th, 59:31) rounded out the eight-finisher field, completing the course on a clear, breezy Memorial Day in Sacramento.
