Barks & Brews 5K F55-59: Traci Seto edges out a thriller at the front

• Seto wins in 23:41 (7:38/mi), holding off Carolyn Hamlin by just 7 seconds in one of the tightest finishes among the 29 women in F55-59.
• Hamlin's late surge: she entered the women's field at 63rd after mile one, climbed to 47th by the finish — posting the 38th-fastest women's split on miles 2–3 to nearly reel in the leader.
• Lynette Greco rounds out the podium in 27:22 (8:49/mi), finishing 3rd — a full 3:34 back of Hamlin but posting the 86th-fastest women's split on the final stretch to the finish.
• Jennifer Harwood takes 4th in 28:35, moving from 133rd among women at mile one all the way to 108th by the finish — the biggest positional climb in the group.

Traci Seto, 57, of Wilton, set the tone early. Running a steady 7:38/mi, she sat 44th among women after the first mile and never surrendered the F55-59 lead. She did drift slightly to 47th in the women's field through miles one and two, but a strong final mile pulled her back to 46th — and, crucially, kept Hamlin at arm's length. Her 48th-fastest women's split on miles 1–2 showed she wasn't coasting; she was racing.

Carolyn Hamlin, 58, from Rancho Cordova, ran the opposite race — a back-half charge that nearly flipped the result. Starting the second mile in 63rd among women, she sliced through the field with the 38th-fastest women's split on miles 2–3, pulling to 47th by the finish line. Seven seconds was all that stood between her and the win. That's a catch-up story worth savoring: Hamlin ran that closing stretch noticeably faster than Seto, but the gap built in the early miles was just enough to hold.

Behind the podium, the battle for 4th and 5th was its own subplot. Jennifer Harwood (28:35, 9:12/mi) and Claudia Wirth (29:21, 9:27/mi) ran contrasting races — Harwood climbing steadily through the women's field from 133rd to 108th, while Wirth actually faded, sliding from 113th to 123rd. Tressa Tabares finished 6th in 29:23, just two seconds behind Wirth, with Carla Santo Domingo rounding out the top seven in 29:44.
