That's not a close race; that's a statement. With 42°F temperatures and a steady breeze off the valley, the conditions were brisk but fast, and Ekholm used every bit of them.

Behind her, the real drama played out between Krissy Pieczynski and Emily Schuttish, both 23-year-olds from Napa running what amounted to a private race within the race.
