Napa Valley 5K — F50-54: Schuttish Dominates on Home Turf

• Cindy Schuttish won the F50-54 race in 27:41 (8:55/mi) — more than 3:37 ahead of second place in a 27-finisher field.

Racing in her hometown of Napa, Cindy Schuttish made the F50-54 race her own from the outset. Her 27:41 finish at 8:55/mi was in a class by itself — a margin of more than three and a half minutes over Amanda Blakley, who crossed in 31:18 at 10:04/mi. That gap tells the story of a race where the top spot was never really in doubt.

Behind Blakley, the real drama unfolded in the battle for the podium's final step. Cindy Hicks of Evanston held off Tammy Mckim of Brentwood by just six seconds — 33:01 to 33:07 — with local runner Julie Capito of Napa finishing 5th in 33:26, just 25 seconds further back. Three runners, three different states, separated by less than half a minute: that was the most competitive stretch of the race.

The field of 27 then spread out through the middle and back portions. Michelle Tran-Nguyen took 7th in 36:08, Ann Malaker 8th in 36:42, and Soo Venkatesan 9th in 37:56 before the gaps began to widen more noticeably. Heather Orsanic (10th, 39:35) through Aileen Atienza (13th, 41:19) formed a tighter cluster, while Norma Cantu's 14th-place 46:58 opened a new chapter in the field. Carien Jordaan rounded out the listed finishers in 20th at 52:02, with seven more completing the race beyond her.
