On a cool, breezy March morning in Napa, Aubrey Roberts of Palo Alto turned the F25-29 race into a solo time trial almost from the gun. Her 5:49/mi average produced an 18:03 finish — five minutes and six seconds faster than anyone else in the field. That is not a close race; that is a statement.

Behind Roberts, Katherine Sarquis of Stanford claimed a clear and comfortable 2nd place in 23:09 (7:27/mi), well clear of the chase pack. The real drama played out a step further back, where Zoya Chakourski of San Francisco held off Irina Abramova of Corte Madera for 3rd. Chakourski's 25:51 (8:19/mi) gave her a 16-second cushion over Abramova's 26:07 (8:24/mi) — enough to secure the bronze but not enough to relax. Clara Reinkemeyer, making the trip from New York, finished 5th in 26:40.

Further down the leaderboard, the 6th-through-8th battle was the tightest cluster of the day. Ilinca Cojocaru and Ruth Guan — both San Francisco and Walnut representatives — crossed in 27:37 and 27:39 respectively, just two seconds apart, with Marissa Wise of Napa closing in at 27:56. Then came another tight trio: Gladys Federico (29:33), Luana Running (29:34), and Adrienne Lam (29:38) all finished within five seconds of each other for 9th through 11th. Forty women finished the F25-29 race in all — a lively field on a chilly Napa morning.
