Napa Valley 5K: Hundley Dominates the M21-24 Field

• Hunter Hundley (Austin, 24) wins M21-24 in 26:51 at an 8:39/mi clip — more than two minutes clear of the field.
• Stephen Doeve (Morgan Hill, 24) claims 2nd in 28:55, the only other finisher under 30 minutes.
• Colton Merville (Fairfield, 21) rounds out the podium in 34:58, nearly six minutes back of Doeve.
• Jc Torres and Don Marco Habana finish 6th and 7th respectively, both clocking 1:03:18 — Torres edging ahead by the slimmest of margins at the line.

Hundley set the tone from the gun, crossing in 26:51 at 8:39/mi to take M21-24 honors by a commanding 2:04 over his nearest rival. In a seven-man field on a cool, breezy Napa morning — 42°F with a 7 mph wind — that kind of margin doesn't happen by accident. Doeve (28:55, 9:18/mi) was a clear second-best, running a solid race of his own but never truly threatening the leader.

Behind the top two, the gaps widened considerably. Merville claimed 3rd in 34:58 (11:15/mi), finishing nearly six minutes behind Doeve and a world away from Hundley's winning time. Udwin (4th, 41:48, 13:27/mi) and Furnanz (5th, 44:38, 14:22/mi) kept their own races going to the finish line, separated by just under three minutes.

The most intriguing moment of the day came at the very back of the field, where Torres and Habana — both from the Nevada side of the Sierra — crossed in an identical displayed time of 1:03:18. The places tell the real story: Torres in 6th, Habana in 7th, separated by something the clock couldn't quite capture in whole seconds. It was the tightest finish of the day, even if it came well off the pace of the front-runners.
