Sarah Marriott made the home-crowd favorite role look easy on a cool Napa morning. Running at 8:08/mi, the 45-year-old local finished in 25:17 — a margin that left no ambiguity at the top. Second-place Kristy Oakes of Petaluma crossed in 26:13 (8:26/mi), running a solid race but never quite able to close the gap Marriott had opened.

Erin Strout of Flagstaff rounded out the podium in 26:58 at 8:41/mi, securing third with some breathing room over fourth. Melissa Smith (Jupiter) came in 4th at 28:10, and Michelle Matthys (South Beloit) was 5th in 28:30 — the two separated by just 20 seconds but running a noticeably slower pace than the podium trio.

The most entertaining stretch of the race was the logjam from 7th through 10th. Cristina Stoyanov (Menlo Park, 29:46), Alyssa Hobbs (Juneau, 29:52), Grace Wong (San Francisco, 29:59), and Linda Kwong (Napa, 30:04) were essentially racing each other the entire way, with only 18 seconds separating all four at the finish. Further back, the field spread considerably — Vickie Mallicoat was 11th in 33:25, opening a gap of more than three minutes to 10th place that signaled a clear break in the competitive clusters.
