Napa Valley 5K — F55-59: Wyatt edges Martinez in a razor-close finish

• Sharon Wyatt wins in 30:12 (9:43/mi), holding off Martha Martinez by just 12 seconds.
• Top three separated by only 40 seconds — Laura Curtis crossed 3rd in 30:52, making for one of the tightest podiums in the F55-59 field.
• Christy Wise rounded out the top four in 31:46, still within 1:34 of the winner.
• 20 finishers covered a wide range, from Wyatt's 30:12 to Ana Boman's 1:22:18.

Sharon Wyatt, 58, of Napa ran her home course to perfection on a cool, breezy March morning, crossing in 30:12 at a 9:43/mi clip to claim the F55-59 title. Right on her heels was Martha Martinez, 59, of Anthony — just 12 seconds back in 30:24 at 9:47/mi. Those are meaningfully different paces over 3.1 miles, which means Wyatt held her ground throughout rather than getting caught at the line. The win was earned, not scraped.

Third place was nearly as close. Laura Curtis, 57, of Davis finished in 30:52 — only 28 seconds behind Martinez and 40 seconds off the winner — running 9:56/mi to complete a genuinely tight podium. Christy Wise, 55, of El Cerrito came in 4th at 31:46, still within striking distance of the top three at 10:13/mi. The first four finishers were all inside 1:35 of each other, which made for a compelling front pack on a chilly Napa morning.

From there the field spread out. Kathleen Bocage, 56, finished 5th in 33:06, and Jodi Baker, 56, was 6th in 35:14. Stephanie Weise, 57, and Shemaine Nicola, 59, came in 7th and 8th in 36:36 and 37:51, respectively. The back half of the field brought its own stories — Bunna Phorth, 57, crossed 19th in 1:06:14, and Ana Boman, 59, closed out the F55-59 field in 1:22:18, making sure every bib got a finish line.
