• Cynthia Mitchell and Erin Stewart staged the race's tightest duel — separated by just 3 seconds (57:31 vs. 57:34) for 3rd and 4th.
• Places 7–9 were remarkably bunched: Jessica Berkholtz, Amy Walczak, and Claire Nangan all clocked 1:06:2x–1:06:31, a window of just 3 seconds across three finishers.

Cheryl Spangenberg of Franklin, TN set the tone from the gun, running a crisp 8:24/mi average to claim the F45-49 title in 52:10. The margin over Beth Raper — 1:12 — was decisive enough to signal this was never seriously in doubt at the front. Raper, running 8:35/mi out of Muscle Shoals, was equally comfortable in second, with the next finisher arriving more than four minutes behind her.

The race's most compelling moment came at the 3rd-place line, where Cynthia Mitchell of Athens and Erin Stewart of Owens Cross Roads ran nearly identical races all the way to the finish. Mitchell took 3rd in 57:31, Stewart 4th in 57:34 — three seconds the only thing separating two neighbors from the same podium step. A little further back, the 7th-through-9th cluster was just as striking: Berkholtz, Walczak, and Nangan crossed within a three-second window, all averaging 10:42/mi, each earning a different place by the slimmest of margins.

Cool, overcast conditions — 59°F with a light 9 mph breeze — were about as cooperative as a December morning in Huntsville gets, and the 20-finisher field spread across a wide range of efforts, from Spangenberg's 52:10 down to Kemberly Williams' 1:47:03. Whatever the pace, all 20 made it to the finish line on a day that rewarded anyone willing to show up and run.
