Masters Men 10K: Lindsay edges Dock in a North Alabama duel

The story at the front of the Masters Men field was a tight, local showdown. Andrew Lindsay of Huntsville set the pace at 6:48/mi and crossed in 42:14, with Kendall Dock of New Market pushing him every step of the way — Dock's 42:29 at 6:50/mi was just 15 seconds back in a field of 94. That's a genuine race within a race, and Lindsay deserved every inch of that win. Daniel Brunick rounded out the podium in 44:11 (7:07/mi), a clear step back from the lead pair but a solid effort, with John Lemieux just 44 seconds further behind in 4th at 44:55.

The age story of the day belonged to Gerard Tamez, who at 63 finished 5th in 45:22 — ahead of men more than two decades his junior. What makes it even more impressive: Tamez had already competed in the 5K earlier in the weekend, placing 6th among the men there. Racing twice and landing on the Masters Men 10K podium is one of the better performances of the day, full stop.

Behind the top five, Scott Sandlin (6th, 46:20) and Drew Bell (10th, 48:21) brought some multi-year history to the field. Sandlin was here in 2022, going 5th in 43:24; his 2024 time of 46:20 reflects a tougher day or a different race plan. Bell ran 45:26 for 6th in 2023 and came back in 2024 to clock 48:21 for 10th — still showing up, still competing. The Masters Men field ran 94 deep on a mild December morning in Huntsville, and from Lindsay's 42:14 down through the chasing pack, it was a race worth watching.
