Rocket City 10K: Drew Bell dominates M55-59

• Drew Bell wins in 48:21 (7:47/mi), more than two minutes clear of the field.
• Daniel Lee and Ronnie Turrentine separated by just 1:03 for 2nd and 3rd — both under 8:30/mi pace.
• Positions 5–8 compressed into 32 seconds: Wendleton, Hartsfield, Torgerson, and Namie all finished between 57:23 and 58:09.
• 16 finishers ranged from 48:21 to 1:55:39 — a spread of over an hour.

Drew Bell, 59, made the M55-59 race look like a solo time trial. His 7:47/mi average put him 2:02 ahead of Daniel Lee at the finish — a margin that was never really in doubt. For a 59-year-old at the top of the age group, it was a commanding performance by any measure.

Behind Bell, Lee (8:07/mi) and Ronnie Turrentine (8:17/mi) ran a clean, honest race for the podium. The 1:03 gap between them is respectable separation, but both men were clearly operating in a different gear from the rest of the field — Howard Jung in 4th finished more than 2:30 back of Turrentine at 53:59.

The most entertaining stretch of the race was the battle for 5th through 8th. Marc Wendleton, Gene Hartsfield, Will Torgerson, and Leslie Namie were separated by just 32 seconds across that entire group, all clustered around the 9:14–9:22/mi range. Any one of them could have swapped a place with a single stronger mile.

At the back, Joe Dore's 1:55:39 — nearly 18:37/mi — stands apart from the rest of the field and suggests he may have been managing something on the course. The gap between 15th (David Swanson, 1:12:13) and 16th is larger than the gap between 1st and 12th combined.
