Rocket City 10K — F65-69: Weidner Wins with Room to Spare

• Wendy Ann Weidner (Bristol, TN) took the F65-69 title in 1:08:35 at an 11:02/mi pace, finishing 2:41 ahead of runner-up Linda Wright.
• Linda Wright (Niceville, FL) claimed 2nd in 1:11:16, with Kathy Elliott (Madison, AL) rounding out the podium in 1:13:12 — just under two minutes back.
• 4th and 5th were separated by only 22 seconds: Susan Aud finished in 1:16:07 and Cindy Moeller in 1:16:29.
• The F65-69 field of 8 spanned nearly 54 minutes from first to last finisher.

Wendy Ann Weidner controlled the F65-69 race from start to finish, crossing in 1:08:35 and never letting the field get close. Her 11:02/mi pace was the sharpest in the group and the margin — 2:41 over Linda Wright — left no doubt at the line. Wright, running 11:28/mi out of Niceville, FL, held 2nd comfortably, while Kathy Elliott of Madison, AL pushed through in 1:13:12 to lock up the final podium spot.

The most compelling battle of the day played out just off the podium, where Susan Aud (Anna, IL) and Cindy Moeller (Madison, AL) ran virtually side by side. Aud edged Moeller by just 22 seconds — 1:16:07 to 1:16:29 — across 6.2 miles of racing. That's a gap of roughly three seconds per mile separating 4th from 5th.

Behind them, Janice Harrison of Huntsville finished 6th in 1:32:33, followed by fellow Huntsville runner Diana Peters in 1:40:00. Mary Wilson of Birmingham closed out the field in 2:02:46, completing a spread that tells its own story: eight women aged 65 to 69 who showed up on a mild December morning in Alabama and ran a 10K. That's worth noting on its own.
