Karen Moore made this one look easy. Running a 10:21-per-mile pace across 6.2 miles, the 64-year-old from Sherrills Ford, NC, crossed in 1:04:19 — a margin of 12 minutes and 28 seconds over the next finisher. In a seven-woman field, that kind of gap doesn't just win a race; it reframes what the rest of the group is competing for.

And that secondary competition was genuinely compelling. Miriam Samet of North Brunswick, NJ, held off Susan Woodworth — running on home turf in Huntsville — by just 26 seconds to claim 2nd. Samet's 1:16:47 to Woodworth's 1:17:13 was the tightest margin of the entire age group, a real battle right to the finish line. Joyce Kenney of Wetumpka, AL, rounded out the top four in 1:23:52, running a steady 13:30-per-mile pace.

The back half of the field spread out considerably from there. Kay Atwood (1:30:49), Donna Gregg (1:38:11), and Audrey Hannum (1:49:31) each finished on their own terms, with Hannum — at 61 the second-youngest in the group — completing the course in 1:49:31. In mild December conditions in Huntsville, all seven women got it done.
