Rocket City 5K: Coleman dominates F60-64 in warm December conditions

• Jennifer Coleman won the F60-64 age group in 26:39 (8:35/mi) — finishing a full 2 minutes ahead of runner-up Cheryl Webster.
• Webster (28:39) and Gayann Luck (30:40) rounded out the podium, separated by just over 2 minutes.
• Robin Giles (34:58) and Vanessa Fish (35:17) battled closely for 4th and 5th, finishing just 19 seconds apart.
• Gail Sikes (42:11) and Nancy White (42:13) were separated by just 2 seconds at the line — with Sikes holding 8th by the narrowest of margins.

Jennifer Coleman made the F60-64 race look straightforward, crossing in 26:39 at an 8:35/mi clip — a commanding effort on a warm, breezy December morning in Huntsville, where 70°F temperatures and 17 mph winds made every minute earned. That performance also carried extra weight: Coleman had already raced the 10K at this same event, finishing 10th among women in that field. Backing up a 10K with a 5K win in the same weekend is a genuine double worth noting.

Behind Coleman, Cheryl Webster (Huntsville's own) ran a solid 28:39 to take 2nd, with Gayann Luck of Greenwood, MO, rounding out the podium in 30:40. The top three were clear of the rest of the field, but the racing got interesting further back. Robin Giles and Vanessa Fish — both from the Madison/Huntsville area — were locked in a tight duel through 4th and 5th, separated by just 19 seconds at the finish (34:58 vs. 35:17).

Near the back of the field, Gail Sikes and Nancy White delivered the closest finish of the day — 42:11 to 42:13, just two seconds between them after more than three miles of racing. Sikes held 8th, White 9th, with the result decided by the finest of margins. All 12 women who toed the line in F60-64 finished, from Coleman's sharp 8:35 pace down to Anita Thebo's determined 56:14 closer — a full spread of effort on a day that asked something extra of everyone.
