F30-34: Villamil dominates as a deep Bay Area field battles for the podium

Zacnite Villamil of Foster City made this one look straightforward. Her 25:28 finish at 8:12 per mile put a full 1:10 gap between herself and the rest of the F30-34 field — the kind of margin that says the race for first was over well before the finish line. In a division of 177 finishers, that's a commanding performance on a course where the Bay winds were anything but cooperative.

Behind her, the battle for the podium was considerably tighter. Wilma Rodriguez (Vacaville) ran a solid 26:38 at 8:34/mi to lock up 2nd, while Drew Leatherday — making the trip all the way from Kiveton Park — crossed in 26:47 at 8:37/mi to claim 3rd. Just 9 seconds split those two, and Rodriguez held enough of a cushion to keep Leatherday at arm's length. Vivian Aluoch of Oakland rounded out the top four in 27:52, running 8:58/mi.

The fight for 5th produced the afternoon's most dramatic moment at the line. San Francisco's own Taiji Wang finished in 28:06 and Berkeley's Nicole Sagui in 28:07 — one second the difference between 5th and 6th after 3.1 miles. Anhelina Kolodey (Vancouver, WA) followed in 28:39, with Emma Wang (Sunnyvale) and Clarissa Lott (Clairton, PA) completing the top nine at 29:10 and 29:30 respectively.
