M20-29: McNamara dominates a 33-man field on the San Francisco streets

Nicholas McNamara, just 20 years old and racing on home turf in San Francisco, made this one look straightforward. His 5:53/mi average through 60°F breezy conditions was a cut above — more than 40 seconds per mile faster than runner-up Cassius Greene's 6:35/mi pace. That gap translated to a 2:11 cushion at the line, a dominant performance in a 33-man field where no one else came close to threatening him.

Greene, also 20 and out of Millbrae, ran his own clean race to claim 2nd in 20:27, arriving well ahead of the chase pack. The real drama unfolded behind him, where Theo Lee (3rd, 22:18) held off a tight cluster of 22-year-olds. Edem Amedjonekou of Antioch finished 4th in 22:42, followed by Oscar Fernandez (Sonoma, 5th, 23:10) and Dominic Girish (San Bruno, 6th, 23:11) — separated by a single second after more than three miles of racing on San Francisco's demanding streets.

Matthew Kroes (7th, 24:49) ran a step behind that group, while Garrett Carr (8th, 26:22) and Gabriel Hernandez (9th, 26:40) pushed through the back half of the top ten. Julian Robles (10th, 27:11) and Christopher Porco (11th, 27:36) rounded out a competitive middle tier. The field spread out considerably from there, with Joseph Jennings (20th, 34:44) marking the final individually listed finisher before 13 more completed the M20-29 field. McNamara, though, was long since finished — the story of this race belonged to him from the gun.
