The 73-year-old San Franciscan crossed in 28:16 at a 9:06/mi clip — a pace so commanding that the entire rest of the F70-74 field finished more than 18 minutes later. Racing on her home streets, Harriman didn't just win; she separated herself by a margin that turned the rest of the contest into a race within a race.

That secondary battle was its own compelling story. Gail Nakamura made the trip from Honolulu and earned 2nd place in 46:32, while Mary Pitts — coming all the way from Omaha — pushed her hard, finishing 3rd in 48:07.
