Tommy Craft made the trip from Richmond, Kentucky to San Francisco, toed the line, and got the job done. The 55-year-old was the only finisher in the NB55-59 field, crossing in 51:40 at a 16:38 per mile average — a solo effort through the city streets with the Bay wind for company and no one else in his bracket to measure against.

There's something to be said for showing up. While other age groups had competitors jostling for position, Craft ran his own race from start to finish — no rivals, no pressure, just the course, the conditions, and the clock. He takes home a clean 1st-place finish in NB55-59, earned simply by being the one who showed up and saw it through.
