San Francisco's breezy 60°F morning made for brisk racing conditions on the Embarcadero, and Shari Peterson of San Carlos took full advantage. The 66-year-old ran a steady 11:49/mi to finish in 36:43 — a full 2:13 ahead of anyone else in the F65-69 field. That kind of gap doesn't happen by accident; Peterson ran her own race and let the result speak for itself.

Behind her, Ok Sook Kim of San Lorenzo crossed in 38:56 (12:32/mi) to claim second, with Ramona Pursley of Aptos just 49 seconds further back in 39:45 (12:48/mi). Those two ran a genuine contest for the podium, with Pursley unable to quite reel in Kim over the 5K distance.
