Katherine Zampolin made this one look straightforward. Running 8:23/mi through warm, humid air — 71°F, 73% humidity, with a 17 mph wind off the Virginia Beach coast — she moved steadily through the women's field from 267th at the 10K checkpoint to 221st by the finish, building her lead with each segment. Her winning margin of 4:18 over second place was decisive; nobody in the F60-64 field was in the same conversation.

The real drama unfolded behind her. Margaret Kopacz (Chesapeake, VA) claimed 2nd in 1:54:13, having made one of the more aggressive moves in the age group — advancing from 456th among women at the 10K mark all the way to 331st by the finish. She posted the 294th-fastest women's split from 15K to 20K, a strong middle stretch that cemented her podium spot. But Martha Merz (Annapolis, MD) was coming. Starting the race deep in the women's field at 668th, Merz climbed relentlessly — 541st, 465th, 369th — and closed with the 198th-fastest women's split from 20K to the finish, the sharpest final kick on the F60-64 podium. She crossed in 1:54:52, just 39 seconds behind Kopacz.

Fourth-place Ingrid Mathison (W Hempstead, NY, 1:56:29) was 1:37 off the podium — close enough to feel it — while a significant gap separated the top four from Carrie Plasse in 5th (2:04:40) and the rest of the age group. In a race defined by tough conditions, the F60-64 podium held up remarkably well, with all three finishers under 1:55.
