The headline writes itself: six seconds across 13.1 miles. Kelvin Anderson and Cameron Hopper, both running 6:52/mi to the decimal, waged a race that wasn't decided until the finish line. Anderson, 63, held the edge throughout — his gender-place tracking shows him hovering around the 110–126 range among the men's field before finishing 114th among men, a steady, controlled effort. Hopper, 64 out of Mechanicsville, was actually climbing through the men's field more aggressively in the middle miles, reaching as high as 106th among men at the 15K mark — but Anderson had just enough of a cushion built to hold on.

The conditions made every second count. A 17 mph wind in Virginia Beach on a March morning, combined with 71°F and 73% humidity, is a genuine test of pacing discipline — and both Anderson and Hopper nailed it. Ledwith (1:32:14, 7:02/mi) was solid in 3rd but ran a different kind of race, his position among the men's field sliding back steadily from the 5K onward, suggesting he went out with the leaders and absorbed the conditions differently as the miles added up.

Behind the podium, Chip Akers (1:34:32) and Rodney Ragin (1:36:27) were the next to separate from the pack, with Akers notably advancing from 226th among men at the 5K mark all the way to 187th by the finish — one of the more aggressive positive progressions in the group. The gap between 5th and 6th (Christopher Maestrello, 1:37:43) was just over a minute, after which the field compressed noticeably, with seven runners finishing between 1:37:43 and 1:41:45.
