San Francisco 10K — F50-54: Constantino takes the title in a tight three-way battle at the front

• Susanna Constantino won the F50-54 race in 50:18 (8:06/mi), the only finisher to break 50:30.
• Just 58 seconds separated 1st through 3rd — Constantino (50:18), Katherine Swanson (50:59), and Eva Frecea (51:16).
• The top five were separated by only 2:23, with Bobbi Lynn Jones 4th in 52:33 and Patricia Higase 5th in 52:41.
• 91 women finished in F50-54, with times ranging from Constantino's 50:18 down to the back of the field.

Susanna Constantino, 50, from Stockton, set the pace from the front and never let it slip, crossing in 50:18 at 8:06/mi on a cool, overcast San Francisco morning. The conditions — 64°F with a light 7 mph wind — were about as cooperative as the city gets, and Constantino made the most of them.

Katherine Swanson of Sunnyvale ran a composed 8:12/mi to finish 2nd in 50:59, 41 seconds back. Eva Frecea of Moraga was another 17 seconds behind in 51:16 (8:15/mi), rounding out the podium. Those three pulled clear of the rest of the field — 4th-place Bobbi Lynn Jones of Mill Valley came in at 52:33, a 1:17 gap back to Frecea that made the podium feel like its own race within the race.

The fight for 4th and 5th was its own close contest: Jones's 52:33 and Patricia Higase's 52:41 — both San Francisco Bay Area runners — were separated by just 8 seconds, with Higase running 8:29/mi to Jones's 8:27/mi. Patricia Johnston of San Francisco followed in 6th at 53:31, and then a notable gap opened before Maureen Flanigan (56:08) and Jennifer Provine (56:09) arrived in 7th and 8th — separated by a single second after 6.2 miles of racing. Nabila Abbas rounded out the top ten in 9th at 56:13, just four seconds further back, in a remarkably tight cluster at the 7th-through-9th positions.
