At an age when most runners are still finding their ceiling, Tapia showed a sharp, controlled performance that left the rest of the field chasing his shadow.

The only man who made it a real race was Oscar Nieves Lira. The Portland-based 22-year-old crossed in 35:53 at 5:46/mi — a genuinely fast effort in its own right, just not quite enough. Twenty-five seconds is a meaningful gap over 6.2 miles, but Nieves Lira's pace made clear he was racing Tapia, not just finishing behind him. Jakob Love of San Antonio rounded out the podium in 37:50, running a steady 6:05/mi to hold 3rd by nearly two minutes over 4th place.
