M30-34 10K: Sergeev Runs Away from a Stacked SF Field

Alexey Sergeev, running out of San Francisco, was never seriously challenged. His 5:51/mi average put him well clear of a competitive field and delivered the M30-34 title by 41 seconds — a commanding margin on a course that winds through the city's famously uneven terrain. On a cool, overcast morning with manageable winds, conditions were about as good as San Francisco offers in July, and Sergeev made the most of them.

Behind him, the podium battle had genuine tension. Eric Moore (37:04, 5:58/mi) held 2nd comfortably, but Elliot Rosenthal (38:07, 6:08/mi) and Rory Craig (38:16, 6:10/mi) were separated by just nine seconds for 3rd and 4th. Rosenthal's pace advantage over Craig was real — a full two seconds per mile — but Craig kept it close enough that 4th was never comfortable. Victor Tran rounded out the top five in 40:42, running 6:33/mi and finishing more than two minutes behind Craig.

The middle of the field produced its own subplot. Alex Fleck (6th, 42:19) and Sergio Zempoalteca Ramirez (7th, 42:37) were separated by 18 seconds, with Matt Zaso posting the exact same displayed time as Ramirez — 42:37 — but finishing 8th, meaning the timing caught a sliver of daylight between them. Further back, the 13th-through-15th trio of Sohn, Rolon, and Khokhlov ran practically in lockstep, covering the 10K within three seconds of one another across a span of 7:10/mi pace — a quietly fierce battle that only the finish clock could settle.
