With 64°F temperatures and a light bay breeze keeping conditions manageable, Huang never let up, crossing the line as the clear winner and the only athlete in the group to break an hour.

Michael DeGroff-Kirchgraber of El Cerrito finished second in 1:03:14, averaging 10:11 per mile — a noticeably more measured pace than Huang's. The gap at the line was 4 minutes and 57 seconds, a margin that reflects two genuinely different approaches to the distance rather than a close contest that nearly went either way.
