Two Cities Marathon 5K — F45-49: Aurora Garcia Wins a Fast and Furious Age-Group Battle

Warm and sunny in Fresno — 74°F under a clear sky — the F45-49 field got right to work. Aurora Garcia, 45, from Madera, crossed in 29:00 flat at a 9:20/mi clip to claim the age-group win. Right on her heels was Jen Nelsen, also 45, who finished in 29:14 — just 14 seconds back. That's a margin slim enough to feel the breath of competition the entire way.

Mary Garcia, another 45-year-old, rounded out the podium in 29:58, and Elia Campos of Pixley wasn't far behind in 4th at 30:08 — meaning the top four were packed into a 68-second window. Li Jin of Fresno closed out the top five in 30:35, the lone 49-year-old in that lead group, making her finish particularly notable as the eldest among the frontrunners.

From there, the field spread out across familiar Central Valley terrain. Lizzet Pena (31:48) and Juliet Calafiore (31:51) traded blows for 6th and 7th, separated by just three seconds. Yvonne Borjas and Susan Gladding filled out the top nine within a minute of each other, while Rachael Nightengale rounded out the top ten in 33:35. All told, 42 women finished the F45-49 race — a strong showing on a warm November morning in Fresno.
