Cheryl Davies of Madison, AL set the tone from the start and never let up. Running 8:57/mi across 13.1 miles on a mild but breezy December morning in Huntsville, she was the only woman in the F50-54 group to crack the two-hour mark — a clean, commanding win. Her 10K-to-finish segment ranked 40th among all women in the race, confirming she held form when it mattered most.

Janet Tidwell of Birmingham gave chase and came tantalizingly close to that same barrier, crossing in 1:59:16 at 9:06/mi. The gap to Davies was 1:58 — real, but not enormous — and Tidwell's 47th-fastest women's closing split shows she was moving well to the line. Two women, two strong efforts, a genuine 1-2 that separated itself from the rest of the field.

The battle for the final podium spot was the race's tightest subplot. Kyoko Yamamoto (Knoxville, TN) and Leigh Dollar (Guntersville, AL) were locked together through much of the back half, with Dollar ultimately edging ahead on the closing stretch — her 59th-fastest women's split just outpacing Yamamoto's 60th — to finish 4th in 2:05:07 to Yamamoto's 2:04:32 for 3rd. Sarah Roberts rounded out the top five in 2:07:15, one of five finishers who moved up through the women's field on the second half of the race.
