Rocket City Half Marathon — F60-64: Jane Salem Runs Away With It

• Jane Salem won the F60-64 group in 2:13:26 (10:11/mi), finishing nearly 6 minutes clear of runner-up Lisa Hall.
• Sandra Ciola was the only finisher to gain ground in the women's field over the second half, climbing from 125th to 114th among women on the 10K→Finish segment.
• Cindy Kosan and Vanessa Fish separated by just 41 seconds after nearly 13 miles of racing, the closest battle on the F60-64 leaderboard.
• Rebecca Debell and Cindy Holland both clocked 3:12:52, with timing deciding 7th and 8th place between them.

Jane Salem came to Huntsville and made it look like a training run by comparison to the field behind her. The Nashville runner held 10:11/mi across 13.1 miles in mild but breezy 59°F conditions, finishing in 2:13:26 — a margin that only grew as the race went on. She posted the 109th-fastest split among women on the 10K-to-finish stretch, a solid close that left no doubt about the outcome.

Lisa Hall, racing on home turf in Huntsville, held second throughout and crossed in 2:19:06. Sandra Ciola of Miami was the story of the back half, however — she was 11 places behind Hall at the 10K mark among the women's field, then reeled her in and finished just 1:19 back in 2:20:25, posting the 111th-fastest women's closing split to Hall's 132nd. It wasn't quite enough to take second, but Ciola was clearly the stronger finisher of the two.

Linda McCune rounded out the top four in 2:28:05, leaving a gap of nearly 17 minutes to fifth place, where Kosan and Fish staged the afternoon's tightest duel. Kosan edged Fish 2:45:05 to 2:45:46 — 41 seconds after 13.1 miles — with both women actually gaining places in the women's field over the closing miles. Further back, Debell and Holland arrived in an identical 3:12:52, the timing system separating them into 7th and 8th. Anita Banks, the group's oldest finisher at 64, completed the course in 4:00:45 to round out a ten-woman F60-64 field.
