Rocket City Half Marathon M15-19: Dollar Dominates the Teen Boys

• Luke Dollar (16, Birmingham) won the M15-19 age group in 1:37:29, averaging 7:26/mi — nearly five minutes clear of runner-up Jackson Bybee.
• Bybee (1:42:14) and Will Morelli (1:43:01) were separated by just 47 seconds for 2nd and 3rd, making the battle for the podium's lower steps the tightest contest of the day.
• Morelli was the strongest finisher in the group, climbing from 42nd to 32nd among men on the 10K-to-finish stretch — the biggest positional surge of any M15-19 runner.
• A 67-minute gap separated the field's fastest and slowest finishers, with Colin Mun (15, Chattanooga) crossing in 2:44:30 at 12:33/mi to close out the eight-man group.

Luke Dollar made this one look easy. The 16-year-old from Birmingham went out controlled and finished in command, posting a 7:26/mi average across 13.1 miles on a mild December morning in Huntsville. His 1:37:29 was nearly five minutes faster than anyone else in the M15-19 group — a margin that left no doubt about who owned this age group.

Behind Dollar, the real racing happened between Bybee and Morelli. Jackson Bybee (17, Huntsville) held 2nd at the 10K mark and defended it to the finish in 1:42:14, but Will Morelli (19, Petersburg, TN) was closing hard. Morelli's 10K-to-finish split was the 29th-fastest among women in the field — nearly matching Bybee's 28th-fastest over that same stretch — and he clawed back ten places among men in the back half, finishing just 47 seconds behind Bybee in 1:43:01. Julian Mani (18, Fayetteville, TN) rounded out the top four in 1:46:50, running a steady 8:09/mi.

The back half of the field told a different story. Braden Rimes (15, Huntsville) crossed in 2:07:20 — a 20-minute jump from 4th to 5th — while Matthew Chung and Zulfeqar Wakili finished within two minutes of each other in the 2:12–2:14 range. Colin Mun, also 15, brought it home in 2:44:30 to complete all eight finishers in the M15-19 group.
