More than twelve and a half minutes separated him from second-place finisher Steven Decker Jr. (1:31:33), and Miller didn't just hold his position; he gained ground in the back half, moving from 4th to 2nd among the men with the fastest 10K→Finish split in the men's field.

Behind Miller, the race had its own compelling subplot. Matt Pensa of Madison, AL crossed in 1:34:13 to claim 3rd in M30-34, while Arthur Strauss of Hoover made up ground late — climbing from 26th to 20th among the men — before finishing 4th in 1:36:48.
