Dane Block made this one look straightforward from the start. The 56-year-old Huntsville native ran 8:23 per mile across the full 13.1, a pace that would have been competitive in far younger company. He also posted the fastest 10K-to-Finish split in the M55-59 group, a sign he didn't just bank time early — he closed. By the finish, he had moved up from 54th to 47th among the men's field, adding an exclamation point to an already commanding performance.

Dennis Mix held second place comfortably, crossing in 2:00:22 at a steady 9:11/mi. The more interesting story behind him was Michael Morris, who had been running 2nd among the men's field at the 10K mark before fading on the back half. His 10K-to-Finish split ranked 94th among the men, and he slipped from 68th to 86th in the men's standings over that stretch — enough for Derrick Dean and Steve Smith to close the gap, though Morris still held 3rd in M55-59 at 2:02:06.

The back of the field produced its own drama. Jim Batson, Robert Barnett, and John Harmon — all running between 11:29 and 11:30 per mile — arrived within 14 seconds of each other after 13.1 miles, a testament to how evenly matched they were. Behind them, Greg Schaffer, Hank Hubbard, and Mick Holcomb rounded out the 14-man field, with Holcomb completing the course in 2:53:58 at 13:16/mi to close out the M55-59 group on a cool, overcast Huntsville morning.
