Shamrock'n 5K F60-64: Lukianoff Runs Away with It

• Barbara Lukianoff, 63, wins in 26:37 — an 8:34/mi pace that put a full 1:31 between her and the rest of the F60-64 field.
• Tight podium battle: Anne Thompson (2nd, 28:08) and Patty Glick (3rd, 28:47) were separated by just 39 seconds across 3.1 miles.
• Close mid-pack racing: Diana Lucero-Wehner (6th, 32:50), Liza Medina (7th, 32:54), and Pam Green (8th, 33:03) were packed into just 13 seconds — three athletes, one tight cluster.
• 93 finishers made this one of the day's well-populated age groups, with the top 20 alone spanning a wide range from 26:37 to 39:17.

Barbara Lukianoff of Cool, CA came to West Sacramento and made the F60-64 race her own from the start. Her 8:34/mi pace was a full 29 seconds per mile faster than runner-up Anne Thompson's 9:03/mi — and that gap showed in the results: 1:31 of clear air between first and second place. At 63, Lukianoff delivered the kind of performance that makes the rest of the field take notice.

Behind her, Thompson (28:08) and Folsom's Patty Glick (28:47) ran a genuine contest for the silver and bronze. Thompson held second by 39 seconds — a meaningful cushion over 5K, but not a comfortable one. Ramona Blount of Sacramento claimed 4th in 30:20, with Fely Tanahashi (5th, 31:08) rounding out the top five just past the 31-minute mark.

The real entertainment in the middle of the field came from positions six through eight, where three runners from three different cities finished within 13 seconds of each other. Diana Lucero-Wehner (6th, 32:50), Liza Medina (7th, 32:54), and Pam Green (8th, 33:03) each ran between 10:34 and 10:38 per mile — a genuine race-within-a-race. Lisa Fitzpatrick (9th, 33:18) and Krista Christian (10th, 33:40) kept the pressure on just behind them, making for a lively stretch run through positions six through ten all packed inside 50 seconds.
