SF Marathon 5K — F30-34: Diana Ding Dominates in the Fog

Diana Ding made the F30-34 race her own from the outset. The San Francisco local crossed in 22:12 at a 7:09/mi clip — a pace that no one in the field came close to matching. Her margin over 2nd place Lindsay Dewald was 1:01, which in a 5K is a commanding statement. Dewald, running out of Playa del Rey, held her own with a 7:28/mi average and finished well clear of the rest, making the top two a tier of their own.

The real drama unfolded just behind them. Vivien Kong, another San Francisco local, and Jun Ong of San Francisco ran side by side for most of the race, finishing 3rd and 4th in 24:52 and 24:54 respectively — two seconds the only thing between them. Nidhi Swamy rounded out the top five in 25:30, about 36 seconds back of Ong, before a slightly larger gap opened to 6th-place Christina Benz at 27:32.

Further down the field, Kimberly Ruiz (7th, 28:27), Katherine Robb (8th, 28:45), and Chamari Davis (9th, 29:05) were separated by under 40 seconds across three spots — a tightly bunched chase pack trading positions through the city's damp, breezy streets. Michelle Reade (10th, 29:22) and Maria Victoria Arancibia (11th, 29:28) were similarly locked together just behind them, with only six seconds between 10th and 11th.

With 180 finishers, the F30-34 field was one of the day's deeper competitive groups. The conditions — cool but heavy with moisture and wind — made every minute earned feel genuine. Ding's wire-to-wire control was the headline, but the racing packed into the middle of this field gave it plenty of texture worth noting.
