San Francisco 5K: Isanuk Takes M40-44 in a Brisk Battle on the Bay

• Matthew Isanuk won the M40-44 race in 20:29 (6:36/mi), holding off Thomas Teisseyre by 20 seconds.
• Thomas Teisseyre finished 2nd in 20:49 (6:42/mi); Sam Slee rounded out the podium in 3rd at 21:36 (6:57/mi).
• Lawrence Chiu (4th, 22:21) came in as a double-racer, also having finished 10th among men in Saturday's 5K — a strong showing across both races.
• 75 men competed in M40-44, with the top 4 all finishing under 22:30.

In 56°F fog with a stiff 14 mph wind off the Bay, Matthew Isanuk ran a composed 6:36/mi to claim the M40-44 title in 20:29. Thomas Teisseyre pushed him the whole way — his 6:42/mi was no slouch — but Isanuk opened and held a 20-second gap to take the win. Sam Slee, running 6:57/mi, secured 3rd in 21:36, leaving a 47-second cushion between him and 4th place.

That 4th-place finisher, Lawrence Chiu, deserves a separate mention. His 22:21 here was the coda to a busy race weekend: Chiu had already finished 10th among men in Saturday's 5K, and backing that up with a strong M40-44 showing a day later is one of the better doubles in the field.

Behind the top four, Joseph DiMento (5th, 24:46) and Jovany Jimenez (6th, 25:25) ran well clear of the chase pack, while Ethan Lowry (7th, 26:49) marked the boundary where the field began to spread out more noticeably. The back half of the top 20 clustered in the 29- to 32-minute range, with Guilherme Fighera (12th, 29:55) making the trip count all the way from São Paulo, and Alex Allain and Aleksandr Cheushev (13th and 14th) separated by just one second at 30:17 and 30:18 respectively.
