Jar-Hsing Chen, 77, of Milpitas, made the conditions look manageable. He crossed in 45:32, averaging 14:39 per mile to claim the M75-79 title with a comfortable margin.

Kevin McKean, 76, of San Francisco, was the local entry in every sense — racing his own streets — and he made it count with a 51:12 finish, good for 2nd place. That's 5:40 back of Chen, a gap that reflects a real difference in pace: McKean's 16:29/mi versus Chen's 14:39/mi. Christian Jochim, 77, of San Jose, completed the field in 3rd at 55:33 — a 17:53/mi average, another 4:21 behind McKean.
