Men's 5K: Golinveau Dominates in the Fog

Golinveau, the 27-year-old from Dinant, turned this into a solo time trial from the front. His 5:23/mi average left the rest of the men's field well behind — Anthony Menicutch in 2nd ran 5:44/mi, a 21-second-per-mile gap that tells the whole story. In damp, breezy San Francisco conditions — 56°F, 95% humidity, and a 14 mph wind off the Bay — that kind of separation doesn't come easy. The 2024 men's winner Aaron Allbritton set the bar at 17:05; Golinveau came within three seconds of it, a sharp performance on a tough morning.

Behind him, Menicutch (17:48) and Craig (17:55) ran a genuine race within the race, separated by just seven seconds at the line. Craig, a 26-year-old San Franciscan, held on for 3rd while Menicutch claimed the silver. Then came the day's most striking subplot: 15-year-old Nicholas Shatzko of Hayward clocked 18:06 at 5:50/mi to finish 4th among 711 men. Bryce Rogan rounded out the top five in 18:13, just seven seconds further back.

The gap between 5th and 6th was the race's sharpest tier break — Rogan's 18:13 versus Ceena Modarres's 19:36, a 1:23 jump that effectively closed the front chapter. From there, the field settled into a compelling mid-pack battle, with Lawrence Chiu's 22:21 standing out for a different reason: the 41-year-old San Rafael runner had already raced Saturday's 5K, finishing 10th in that field, and came back to compete again here. Two races, two solid results — that kind of weekend commitment deserves its own line.
