There was no drama in the M80+ race for the simple reason that Isaak Gilyutin made it his own from the moment he stepped to the line. The 86-year-old from San Jose was the only man in the field, and he delivered — crossing in 48:08 at a 15:30-per-mile pace through San Francisco's famously uneven streets on a raw, windy morning.

That wind — 14 mph with humidity sitting at 95% — made conditions feel heavier than the 56°F temperature suggests. Gilyutin pushed through it all the same, covering every one of the 3.1 miles to the finish line.

At 86, simply toeing the line is a statement. Finishing it is another one entirely. Gilyutin did both, claiming the M80+ title as the sole representative of his field — and earning every bit of it.
