SF Marathon 5K: Steer Leads a Global F50-54 Field Through the Fog

San Francisco delivered its signature summer chill on race day — 56°F, 95% humidity, and a 14 mph wind rolling through the city — and the F50-54 field of 52 runners tackled it head-on. Sarah Steer, making the trip from Saffron Walden, was the class of the group from the start, crossing in 25:28 at an 8:12/mi clip. That's a convincing margin over a competitive field, and a result that stands as the benchmark for the cohort on this course in 2025.

Stockton's Susanna Constantino was the closest challenger, finishing 2nd in 26:04 — running 8:23/mi and keeping the gap to 36 seconds. Sandra Poirier, racing in from Rosiers d'Egletons, France, rounded out the podium in 27:53, a full 1:49 behind Constantino. The top three were clearly in a tier of their own before Helen Han (4th, 30:18) and Dana Derhake (5th, 31:18) brought the pace back toward the 10-minute-mile range.

The most competitive battle in the top ten unfolded just behind them. Jeehye Shin (6th, 32:44) and Melinda Winter (7th, 32:49) were separated by just five seconds — both San Francisco Bay Area runners, both running just over 10:30/mi pace. Nelly Elespuru (8th, 33:11), Jennifer Walker (9th, 34:27), and Anne Kremer (10th, 35:05) kept the mid-pack honest, with the field stretching out steadily from there through the final 32 finishers. A truly international group — with athletes from Mexico City, Spain, the UK, France, and across the US — made this one of the more globe-spanning fields the SF 5K had to offer.
