Courtenay Mize made the F55-59 race look straightforward, crossing in 28:25 at a 9:09/mi clip — a margin of 2:17 over the next finisher. On a cool, breezy March morning in Napa (48°F, winds at 12 mph), that kind of front-running pace left no room for a chase. Brenna Wright, the local Yountville runner, was the closest pursuer, finishing 2nd in 30:42 at 9:53/mi — a solid effort, but Mize was already well clear by any measure.

The real drama in this race lived in the middle of the pack. Chiaki Koyanagi, making the trip from Gotembashi, claimed 3rd in 32:15, just 34 seconds ahead of Danville's Tammy Freeman (32:49, 4th). Amy Burkhart, racing on her home turf in Napa, finished 5th in 33:43. Then came a four-runner cluster — Kandi Frasier (6th, 35:03), Anne Faustina (7th, 35:11), and Michelle Jean (8th, 35:27) — all within 24 seconds of each other, making those middle positions genuinely competitive to the line.

Further back, Ngozi Okaro (9th, 37:58) and Angelique Cooper (10th, 40:28) completed the top ten, before the field spread out considerably through the final ten finishers. Steph Lynch of South San Francisco brought it home last in 1:10:24 — more than double Mize's winning time — but all 20 women got across the line on a chilly Napa morning. Mize's win was the clearest story of the day: she ran a race that nobody in this field could answer.
