Juan Martinez made the M21-24 race his own from the start. Running at 7:09/mi through a chilly, wind-bitten morning in Napa — 48°F and a 12 mph headwind doing nobody any favors — the 24-year-old local finished in 22:14, a margin of 2:57 over second-place Kelsey Marshall. That's not a race decided at the line; that's a statement.

Marshall (25:11, 8:06/mi) held second comfortably enough, but the real drama in this eight-man field played out in the chase pack behind him. Hamish Suter crossed in 27:19 to claim third, and then three more runners arrived in the span of just 34 seconds: Kogami at 27:40, Fashola at 27:42 — just two seconds back — and Poirot at 27:53. At 8:54 and 8:55/mi respectively, Kogami and Fashola were running almost stride for stride; a blink separated 4th from 5th.

Daniel Frascella (7th, 28:55, 9:18/mi) ran a minute behind Poirot, and Jonathan Le closed out the field in 30:14 at 9:44/mi. Eight finishers, one dominant performance at the front, and a furious four-way scramble in the middle — not a bad way to spend a cool Sunday morning in Napa.
