Behind him, the battle for 2nd through 4th told a different story. Dante Gonzalez Del Toro, the lone 20-year-old in the group, secured the runner-up spot in 33:44, running at 10:51/mi. Trystan Hernandez — a hometown Napa finisher at just 18 — crossed in 36:18 at 11:41/mi, unable to close the gap to Gonzalez Del Toro over the final stretch. The 2:34 margin between them was real and hard-earned.

Prithvi Maddi, also 18 and also from Fremont like the winner, finished 4th in 38:24 at 12:22/mi — about two minutes behind Hernandez. With four finishers on the board, every place mattered, and all four young men put their times on the Napa course on a chilly March morning. Yu's performance, though, was the one that defined the day.
