Three men lined up for the M70-74 race at the 2025 Napa Valley Marathon 5K, and Kevin Teuscher of Santa Rosa made his intentions clear from the start. The 73-year-old crossed the line in 34:37 at an 11:09/mi clip, putting more than two minutes between himself and the rest of the field. On a chilly, wind-bitten morning along the valley, that margin was never seriously threatened.

Peter Roy of Moraga gave chase and earned 2nd place in 36:46 — a respectable 11:50/mi for a 70-year-old — finishing a solid 2:09 behind Teuscher. The gap between Roy and Teuscher was real and consistent; this wasn't a late fade but rather a race where the winner simply ran at a different level throughout.

Timothy Boyle of Cupertino completed the trio, crossing in 48:03 at 15:28/mi to claim 3rd. His finish was more than 11 minutes back of Roy, making this a race with a clear winner, a settled middle, and a determined third man who saw it through to the end on a cold March morning in Napa.
