• Places 5, 6, and 7 finished within one second of each other: Curtis Straub (32:27), Stephen Barry (32:28), and Dave MacLean (32:28) — Barry and MacLean sharing the same displayed time with places settled by the clock's finer digits.
• 227 men finished in M45-49, making it one of the day's deeper age groups on the Virginia Beach course.

Todd Musher ran away from the M45-49 field from the start and never looked back. His 5:45/mi average across five miles of Virginia Beach roads — in 62°F conditions with a 9 mph wind — was the kind of performance that leaves little room for debate. Second place Mike Carriglitto finished in 30:28, and the gap of 1:52 between first and second tells the story of how commanding Musher's effort was.
