M75-79 at the Shamrock 8K: Abrahamson Leads a Strong Field of 28

• Dale Abrahamson won the M75-79 group in 41:23 (8:20/mi), finishing nearly a minute clear of runner-up Mark Shonerd (42:21).

Dale Abrahamson made it look controlled on a mild March morning in Virginia Beach — 62°F with a light breeze off the coast. His 8:20/mi average held firm across the 8K, and no one in the M75-79 group came close to matching it. Shonerd pushed a steady 8:31/mi but couldn't close the gap, finishing 58 seconds behind in 2nd.

The race for the podium was a different story entirely. Ferguson, Cordingley, and VanLandingham ran nearly in lockstep through the back half of the course, all three finishing within 43 seconds of one another. Ferguson's 3rd-place 49:53 held off Cordingley's 50:20 by 27 seconds, while VanLandingham's 50:36 completed a tight trio that made 3rd place genuinely earned.

Beyond the top five, the M75-79 field spread out considerably. James Miner and Richard Hildreth came in 6th and 7th in 57:41 and 58:26 respectively, and the back of the top 20 stretched past the 1:20 mark. Malcolm Higgins, at 79 the oldest named finisher in the group, crossed in 1:17:26 — a 15:35/mi effort that stands as a testament to showing up and getting it done. With 28 finishers in all, this was a deep and competitive M75-79 field by any measure.
